Performs technical work in the field of air pollution or waste management for the Beaumont Regional Office of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Conducts technical inspections, surveys, and follow-up investigations; prepares reports which documents field activities and observed conditions. Conducts environmental monitoring; and prepares technical papers regarding studies involving environmental subjects. Provides technical assistance to the public, regulated community, and other interested groups regarding the application of appropriate regulations. Assists with the collection and analysis of environmental samples.
Minimum Qualifications:
COPY OF OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED WITH APPLICATION
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field.
One year of full-time experience in the field of environmental activities directly related to the examples of work performed may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.
Preferred Requirements:
Experience interpreting rules, regulations, polices or procedures. Experience conducting environmental inspections or investigations.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or universtity with a major in engineering, basic science, or environmental studies.
Experience working with word processing and/or database software.
Special Requirements:
Moving up to 35 pounds of equipment and samples.
Ability to climb to heights of 40 feet without acrophobia.
Traveling up to 50% of the time.
Ability to work more than 40 hours per week, as needed, to complete assignments or assist with emergency response efforts.
The agency will review the applicant’s driving history in connection with the use of a vehicle in the performance of the job.

Condition of Employment:
TCEQ will verify Selective Service registration for males born on or after January 1, 1960. If exempt from Selective Service registration selected candidate must provide proof of exemption on first day of employment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Responsible for monitoring process information for compliance with regulatory requirements. Assist in gathering data and analyzing for report submittal to agencies and trends. Work with Automation and Instrumentation Group to resolve issues with process tags and Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems.
* Assist in coordinating cooling tower compliance monitoring and performance testing for equipment by working with operations and contractors. Assist in monitoring and working with maintenance to correct deficiencies of wells overseen by Department of Health and Hospitals.
* Presentation at end of term expected.
* Flexible co-op terms are available; however alternating co-op semesters are not guaranteed and are conditional upon individual performance and position availability within the hiring department.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) is sponsoring free training sessions that will give you an understanding of LDEQ EMERGENCY RESPONSE. This session will provide an overview of the role and activities handled by the Emergency Response Division including what happens when there’s an emergency situation, LDEQ’s role and response during emergencies, procedures regarding complaint and spill reporting and the Single Point of Contact (SPOC).Please register for one of the sessions below:
