Join us February 19-20, 2016 for a plethora of fun, hands-on, environmentally-based educational opportunities while we show you how to "Explore the Natural World" with your students! Earn CLUs, network with educators and local scientists, and go home with great ideas for your classroom.

Presenter Proposals

The Louisiana Environmental Education Commission is accepting proposals for hour-long concurrent sessions to be held at the 19th Annual Environmental Education State Symposium. This year’s conference will be held at the Baton Rouge Marriott, February 19-20, 2016.

All concurrent sessions will take place on Saturday, February 20, 2016. The theme for this conference will be “Exploring the Natural World.” It is not necessary for presenters to adhere to the theme, but sessions that complement the theme are encouraged.

The Louisiana Environmental Education Commission has a mission to create a comprehensive and balanced environmental education initiative that will result in environmentally literate citizens who will effectively and constructively solve existing environmental problems, prevent new ones, and maintain a sustainable environment for future generations.

Bays and Bayous Symposium

 The program committee for the 2012 Mississippi-Alabama Bays and Bayous Symposium is seeking presenters for oral presentations and poster presentations. The symposium will be held Nov. 14-15 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center in Biloxi, Miss.

Scientists, natural-resource managers, students, business people, educators, outreach specials and individuals from non-governmental organizations are invited to submit a presentation abstract related to the following session topics: climate and hazard resilience, Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill science, habitat management and restoration, living estuarine resources, and water quality and quantity. 

Presenters are encouraged to discuss current research that addresses Gulf of Mexico environmental issues and how that research is used to support the economy, the environment or society by informing decision makers or increasing marine literacy.

This year’s theme is “Finding a common currency: Natural resource economics, ecology and culture.”

Oral presentations will be 15 minutes, and a 5-minute question-and-answer session will follow each presentation. Abstracts are due Sept. 1 and must be submitted to abstracts@masgc.org. The Bays and Bayous Symposium is organized by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium, Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, Gulf Coast Services Center, Auburn Marine Extension and Research Center, Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Extension Center, University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Lab, Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Ocean Conservancy, Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, Dauphin Island  Sea Lab, Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative, Gulf of Mexico Alliance, Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Legal Program, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Northern Gulf Institute and the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources.

Coastal Marine Institute (CMI) Research and Energy Industry Symposium

 Monday, April 23, 9am-5:30pm
 LSU Energy, Coast, and Environment Building
 Dalton J. Woods Auditorium

This important milestone event hosted by the LSU Center for Energy Studies, the LSU School of the Coast & Environment, and the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will include:

• Retrospectives by Principle (sic) s/b Principal Investigators (PIs) on 20 years of valuable research
• Discussions on current offshore energy trends and ideas for solving energy issues facing Louisiana
• Perspectives on the future of the offshore energy industry, specifically Louisiana's oil, gas, and marine minerals resources

At the heart of this event is the research conducted by CMI, a highly productive and cost-effective collaboration among Louisiana State University, BOEM-formerly the Minerals Management Service, and the State of Louisiana.

Through CMI, over $26 million in research contracts have been awarded to researchers at LSU, LUMCON, UNO, and ULL-producing pivotal and foundational research, as well as positively affecting the scholarly development of more than 100 graduate and undergraduate students.
