 Duties: The primary work area will be in the Chenier plain region of coastal Louisiana, with the possibility of occasional project specific assignments within the Deltaic plain region. Conducts environmental assessments of proposed revegetation sites including interpretation and evaluation of soil and water chemical and physical properties, basic elevation, and interpretation of vegetative responses to such factors; vegetative type mapping. Understands plant specification requirements; ensures specifications are met by marsh plant nurserymen on behalf of participating Districts. Ensures and assist Conservation Districts develop and solicit plant material bid advertisements in timely and accurate manner. Assists with revegetation project installations, project monitoring, completion and submittal of required monitoring reports and proposals for upcoming projects. Provides general assistance to the field office NRSC District Conservationist, provided all responsibilities to the CPRA-LDAF Vegetative Planting Program are complete to-date.
 Minimum Qualification Requirments: Basic- High school diploma/equivalence is required. At least one year of farm operation, and/or boat handling experience is an advantage. Note: To be eligible to qualify for, transfer, or advance to the LDAF - Agricultural Environmental Specialist I or II position, employees must have a baccalaureate degree with at least 24 semester hours in agriculture, soil science, animal science, biology, botany, chemistry, entomology, agronomy, horticulture, plant pathology, zoology, or a combination of credit in these courses to equal 24 semester hours. Special Skills (degrees, certifications, software, etc.) Ability to operate a boat is a plus. Ability or quick learning ability to read and navigate using aerial maps. Community-Based Restoration Program Assistant Coordinator AmeriCorps Member

The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) has partnered with the Louisiana Delta Service Corps AmeriCorps program to host one AmeriCorps member at the CRCL office in Baton Rouge for the 2013-2014 service year (Sept. 1, 2013 through July 31, 2014). The AmeriCorps member will serve as the Assistant Coordinator for CRCL’s Community-Based Restoration Program. AmeriCorps is a national program that places over 75,000 members a year in intensive service programs that allow them to play a positive role in their communities. The Louisiana Delta Service Corps places 40 AmeriCorps members in public schools, non-profits, and community organizations to provide direct service and build capacity in those organizations. Members work to create positive change throughout the delta by serving in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Position Objective: The assistant coordinator will work directly under the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana’s Restoration Program Director, Hilary Collis, to develop wetland restoration projects that will help restore/protect a portion of Louisiana’s coast, engage volunteers in innovative hands-on restoration projects, and engage communities in environmental leadership. Key Responsibilities: The Coastal Restoration Assistant Coordinator will: Work with the CRCL’s Community-Based Restoration Program to develop and implement wetland restoration projects across the coast of Louisiana. Recruit volunteers to participate in wetland restoration projects. Help prepare for and lead volunteer-based restoration projects at sites across the coast of Louisiana. Monitor past restoration projects to report on their status. Increase the reach of CRCL’s programs through the CRCL website and social media outlets. Assist with volunteer management and recognition. Help maintain all equipment used in restoration projects. Conduct research potential restoration projects sites. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in an ecological field). Previous work experience in an environmental field and/or volunteer management is preferred but not necessary. An interest in wetland restoration and/or volunteer outreach programs. Some wetland/environmental science background is helpful but not required. Applicant must be able to grasp basic ecological principles and be able to explain them to others. Ability to serve full time for 11 months (1700 hours). Enthusiastic – must have a desire to play a positive role within the community and have excellent social and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated The applicant must be comfortable working without constant supervision. This includes (but is not limited to) being willing to organize community restoration events and exploring opportunities that increase his/her general knowledge of Louisiana’s wetlands. By physically able and willing to handle heavy work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Be able to work in an office. Good communication skills (both verbal and written). Detail orientated and able to manage time appropriately.
