030216 - RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (SUGAR CROPS) - IBERIA RESEARCH STATION
Research Associate (Sugar Crops)
(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)
Work Location: Domiciled at the Iberia Research Station, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, Jeanerette, Louisiana.
Nature of Work: Assist with sugarcane and sweet sorghum research projects. Duties also include involvement with the ryegrass, wheat and soybean variety evaluation trials. Tasks include applying pesticides, planting, maintaining and harvesting research plots, record keeping, and supervising classified and transient workers. Most of the research will be conducted at the Iberia Research Station, but travel to off-station breeding nurseries and other research stations will be necessary. Experience with MS Excel spread sheets is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to interact successfully with researchers and support personnel to fulfill the mission of the project.
Qualification Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, plant science, general agriculture, entomology, or other agriculture-related field of study. Farming and or research experience is highly desirable but not necessary. Knowledge of statistics and computer analysis of data is preferred. Candidates with non-agricultural degrees may be considered depending on other experiences..
