POSITION
An Environmental Planner positions are available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands, to be assigned at Fort Polk, Louisiana, to provide support to the Environmental Office in complying with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
ORGANIZATION
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

LOCATION
Fort Polk is a major US Army training installation in west central Louisiana, 40 miles west of Alexandria.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will provide advanced technical expertise at Fort Polk to ensure compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for federal actions on the installation. Duties will include the following:
ResearchandwriteNEPAdocuments,includingRecordsofEnvironmentalConsiderationand Environmental Assessments.
ServeoninterdisciplinaryteamstoproducehighlycomplexEnvironmentalImpactStatements.
Conduct independent field inspections for the installation’s maneuver damage monitoring and repair
program, determine severity of training damages and recommend remedial actions.
CoordinatewithFortPolk,U.S.ForestServiceandotherrepresentatives,evaluateproposedactions
for potential environmental impacts, independently determine the level of analysis required, conduct
the analysis, and prepare appropriate level of NEPA documentation (EA, EIS, REC).
Maintain,track,andpreparestatusreportsonallFortPolkNEPAactions.
Independentlyinspectprojectsitestodetermineifmitigationcommitmentsareimplementedand
maintained.
CommunicatewithCEMMLprojectmanagerandprovidedeliverables.
ConductspatialanalysesanddevelopmapsanddatasummariesusingaGeographicInformation
System.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
BS/BA in environmental science, natural resource management, or related field is required. Two years of experience in assessing and documenting environmental impacts is necessary. Must have a valid driver’s
license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date. Ability to conduct strenuous field work in weather extremes, notable high heat and humidity on rugged terrain is required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
DemonstratedknowledgeoftheNationalEnvironmentalPolicyAct(NEPA)anditsimplementing guidelines.
o ExperiencewithenvironmentalanalysispreparationforEnvironmentalImpactStatements, environmental Assessments, Records of Environmental Consideration and Categorical Exclusion documents.
Experiencewithtechnicalwritingandoralpresentation.
Experienceinenvironmentalmonitoringandanalysis
Experienceinprojectmanagementandcoordinatingamongmultipleagenciesandstakeholders. ProficiencywithMicrosoftWord,Excel,PowerPoint,andAccess.
Experience working with ESRI ArcGIS.
Experiencewithdatacollectionandpost-processingwiththeGlobalPositioningsystem.
Experienceworkingwithinmilitaryorfederallandmanagementunits.

SALARY
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications; Range $42,000 - $53,000. Continuation of position is dependent on the receipt of funding from the sponsor for environmental planning at Fort Polk.
