The Department of Coastal Sciences in the College of Science and Technology at the University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) invites fisheries scientists to apply for three open tenure-track positions (nine-month appointment) at the assistant professor level. A Ph.D. and proven record of publishing, teaching, obtaining grant funds and conducting intra- and extramural service in fisheries science or a related field is required. Post-doctoral or academic experience is preferred. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2012.

Scientists with appropriate education, training and skills in one or more fisheries science sub-disciplines are encouraged to apply. The three available positions represent, but are not limited to, quantitative, pelagic/ offshore and invertebrate fisheries science.  Selection of complementary candidates will be a priority. Scientists who can develop, direct and lead a newly emerging academic emphasis in fisheries science within the Department of Coastal Sciences are welcome. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain nationally/internationally recognized and externally funded research programs, to direct M.S. and Ph.D. students, and to participate in graduate instruction. The ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary marine laboratory setting is desired.

The Department of Coastal Sciences (http://www.usm.edu/gcrl/) is located at the University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Coastal Sciences is a research-oriented department with academic emphasis on graduate studies leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The department supports and administers the GCRL Summer Field Program, which offers courses in marine and coastal sciences to students from across the country.
