Three Fisheries Scientists

The Department of Coastal Sciences, College of Science and Technology, The University of Southern Mississippi (USM), Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) invites FISHERIES SCIENTISTS to apply for one (or more) of three open tenure-track positions (9-month appointment) at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level. A Ph.D. and proven record of publishing, teaching, obtaining grant funds, and conducting intra- and extramural service in fisheries science or related field is required. Post-doctoral or academic experience preferred. Anticipated start date is August 2012. Scientists with appropriate education, training and skills in one or more Fisheries Science subdisciplines are encouraged to apply. Specifically, the three positions to be filled could represent, but are not limited to, quantitative, pelagic/offshore, and invertebrate Fisheries Science. Selection of complementary candidates will be a priority. We welcome scientists who will develop, direct and lead a newly emerging Fisheries Science academic emphasis within the USM Department of Coastal Sciences. We envision a larger Fisheries Science program incorporating the emerging academic emphasis into an ongoing Fisheries Management research program comprising an established group of Fisheries scientists. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain nationally/internationally recognized and externally funded research programs, to direct M.S. and Ph.D. students, and to participate in graduate instruction. Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary marine laboratory setting desired. All applicants must apply online at jobs.usm.edu. Review of applications begins November 15, 2011 and will continue until the positions are filled.
