This position is funded from the Commonwealth's annual operating budget.
Duties:
1.
Support project efforts to coordinate and communicate with diadromous
fish constituents; including Town wardens, NGOs, and other agencies.
2. Support project efforts with diadromous fish populations, habitat and passage restoration; including lead coordination on specific restoration projects.
3. Assist in development of sustainable harvest plans for 20+ individual river herring runs as mandated by state and federal management plans.
4. Refine video counting system for river herring runs and implement counting projects in multiple rivers.
5. Design and conduct biological studies to gather data that will assist river herring stock management and habitat improvements (spawning, nursery and migratory).
6. Develop and maintain an interactive datafile and map datalayer on fish passage priorities in Massachusetts and ongoing projects.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) three years of
full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, para-professional or
technical experience in marine biology or fisheries management work, of
which (B) at least one year must have been in a professional capacity,
or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the
substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor’s degree with a major in marine, fisheries or wildlife biology; fisheries or wildlife management; marine science or oceanography may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.*
II. A Graduate degree with a major in marine, fisheries or, fisheries or wildlife biology; fisheries or wildlife management; marine science or oceanography may be substituted for one year of the required (A) experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
Substitutions:

information and services essential to effective anadromous fisheries
restoration and management.
2. Application of Access and ArcView software to project data processing and reporting.
3. Familiarity with video counting technology.
4. Possession of a current Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Job may require irregular work hours.

Comments:
This
is a Civil Service position. This positions works with the Diadromous
Fish Project to better manage the resource, monitor and restore
populations, and improve fish passage. This position is funded through
dedicated monies generated by the new Massachusetts recreational
saltwater permit.
