Scholarship Information & Requirements
  1. A minimum of one graduate and one undergraduate scholarship will be awarded in 2013.
  2. Preference is given to applicants currently enrolled at a Louisiana institution. Exceptions may be considered under special circumstances.
  3. Scholarships will be awarded to students majoring in one of the following fields: Entomology, Plant Pathology, Weed Science, Botany, Microbiology, Biology, Agronomy, Plant Science, Horticulture, Agribusiness, and Vocational Agriculture.
  4. Each scholarship will be a minimum of $2,000.00.
  5. The deadline for applying is January 10, 2013.
  6. A student can receive an LACA scholarship only once.
  7. An official university transcript(s) from all institutions is required.
  8. Two letters of recommendation are required.
  9. Winners are invited and encouraged to attend the Louisiana Agricultural Technology & Management Conference on February 13-15, 2013. The scholarships will be awarded the Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 13th during the General Session.
  10. Qualifications:
    1. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above.
    2. Full time UNDERGRADUATE or GRADUATE students at an accredited Louisiana academic institution are preferred. However, applicants, who are part time because of special situations or following an approved curriculum on-line at an accredited university, will be given serious consideration.
    3. Undergraduate students must have completed a minimum of 45 semester hours or its equivalent prior to application.
    4. Graduate students must have selected a major professor and must be engaged in his/her research project.
  1. Applicants must submit an OFFICIAL university transcript(s) from each academic institution attended, and these must be received before the application deadline. The transcript can be mailed, shipped or sent electronically by the university directly to the scholarship chairperson. Transcripts may be sent by students but they must be an official copy with the university seal.
  2. Each applicant must submit an essay stating why he or she feels qualified to receive a scholarship.
    1. The essay must be a minimum of 200 words.
    2. In the essay, the student should demonstrate their writing and communication skills.
  3. Two current letters of recommendation must be submitted prior to the application deadline.
    1. One letter must be written by a professor in an ag related field.
    2. The individuals writing letters of recommendation must mail these directly to the chairperson of the scholarship committee.
  4. Work experience in agriculture is highly desirable.
  5. Extracurricular activities are desirable.
